Pippa® Resistance Spring

The award-winning workout accessory that boosts pelvic floor fitness—just by wearing it while you move. It provides gentle, natural pelvic floor activation when it matters most--without conscious effort. Pelvic health physical therapists commonly recommend Pippa for resistance training, neuromuscular re-education, and to improve proprioception.

Summary

The Pippa® Resistance Spring is the first workout accessory designed to boost pelvic floor fitness—just by wearing it while you move. It was developed by female designers, engineers, athletes and clinical experts with funding from the National Institutes of Health.

WHO IS IT FOR?
Pippa is for physically active women looking for the benefits of pelvic floor exercise, without the wait. Pippa is suitable for use during group exercise classes, running, dancing, weight lifting, military training, and sports performance. It's safe to wear every day, including during pregnancy and menstruation.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Pippa’s spring-form gently engages the pelvic floor, creating continual light resistance that helps the brain better recruit the right muscles, at the right time, and with the right amount of force. Put another way, it helps muscles “show up” more fully during movement by enhancing safe, natural neuromuscular activation.

RECOMMENDED USES
  • As a workout accessory Pippa can be worn passively to provide an immediate and effortless pelvic floor fitness boost during exercise.
  • As a tool for recovery Pippa can be used for biofeedback and neuromuscular reeducation after childbirth or injury.
  • As a resistance trainer Pippa can be used during pelvic floor muscle training to provide resistance that may increase strength-building productivity.

"10/10. No notes."
Postpartum marathon runner

"It's very easy to use. As easy as putting on and taking out a tampon. I'm telling all my friends."
Ironman competitor

"Your pelvic floor device is AMAZING! I can totally go and exercise hard!!"
An avid gym goer

"These are a great, comfortable and easy to use option especially for postpartum recovery!"
Dr. Mallory Willis, PT

AWARDS
Pippa was honored as one of the best product designs of 2025 by Fast Company magazine in their annual Innovation by Design Awards issue. This highly competitive award typically goes to fitness companies of worldwide repute, such as Nike, REI, Oura and the like!

QUALITY COMMITMENT
Pippa® Resistance Springs are expertly manufactured in the USA of premium, platinum-catalyzed biomedical silicone. They are free of BPAs and microplastics, and have been thoroughly safety-tested, including for use during pregnancy and menstruation.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
Liv Labs conducted early human subjects research and clinical testing, then sponsored a foundational mechanistic study of the Pippa® Resistance Spring at Baylor University. The mechanistic study was led by Dr. Laurel Proulx, a practicing pelvic health physical therapist and published musculoskeletal researcher. The focus was observation of biomechanical effects in healthy volunteers, aided by ultrasound and shear wave elastography. Liv Labs had no role in study design, data collection, data analysis, or manuscript preparation. This foundational investigation was powered for statistical significance and published by the International Continence Society. Further research in symptomatic populations is recommended.

The scientific research and development of this conforming resistance spring technology was supported in part by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development of the National Institutes of Health under Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant award number R44HD105574. 1. Choose the Pippa® Resistance Spring kit that's right for you. Pippa is available in a Starter Kit, with a 42mm light resistance spring, or a Fit Kit that also includes a 50mm medium resistance spring. If you've had children, choose the Fit Kit.
  2. Use Pippa as directed. It's really no more complicated than wearing a tampon, although you may want to apply a water-based lube for comfortable insertion. Once positioned correctly, Pippa stays put during movement and exercise. Give it a try as soon as it arrives!
  3. Pay attention to correct placement. Pippa should be imperceptible after a few moments. If you feel it during use, then you need to insert it further up inside. (If that's not possible, you may want to consider making an appointment with a healthcare provider.)
  4. Go have fun! Walk, hike, run, work out, or do your yard work while wearing Pippa. No need to perform intentional contract and relax drills. That said, if practice kegels with Pippa in place, you will experience them as being more challenging to do.
  5. Keep the instructions and track usage. Pippa is easy to remove, any time for any reason. Always wash with cleanser and air dry between uses. Each spring is safe enough for up to 92 uses, if used as directed.

Can your pelvic floor work better instantly?

Actually . . . yes!
Most of us think of the pelvic floor as a muscle. It is actually the base of your core: a dynamic system of muscles, connective tissues, blood vessels and nerves. Your brain controls this muscle group through the nerves. When fitness trainers talk about “activating your glutes” or “firing up your biceps,” they are alluding to this neuromuscular control system. This process is what ensures that you automatically exert more force to pick up a heavy tea kettle than an empty mug.

Pelvic floor function, then, is not just a function of muscle bulk, commonly thought of as inherent “strength.” It’s also a function of the brain efficiently signaling muscle activation and recruiting motor units that match the needs of the force production needs of the task at hand.

Although "do your kegels" is common advice, and although kegel exercise helps with coordination and responsiveness, the assumption that you need to get stronger may or may not be a true one. Some pelvic floor issues stem from muscle weakness, also known as "low tone" or "hypotone." But some pelvic floor issues stem from muscle tension, also known as "high tone" or "hypertone." Pelvic floor function and capacity depends on good coordination, responsiveness and force production. And that's where Pippa comes in.

The scientific evidence is early and exciting.
In addition to a nonclinical feasibility study and follow-on clinical corroboration, Liv Labs sponsored a mechanistic evaluation at Baylor University's Institute for Musculoskeletal Advancement, led by published researcher and pelvic health expert Dr. Laurel Proulx. She designed the study as a single-group, pre-post evaluation conducted in fifteen asymptomatic women aged 20-39 years. Transperineal B-mode ultrasound and shear wave elastography (SWE) were used to assess pelvic floor neuromuscular function with and without the Pippa® Resistance Spring inserted. Imaging was standardized across the study population, but order was randomized for device condition and imaging modality.

Full results will publish soon in Continence, a peer-reviewed journal of the International Continence Society. The abstract may be viewed here.

Partner: Liv Labs
Pippa by Liv Labs is a soft, intravaginal resistance spring designed to engage the pelvic floor during everyday movement and exercise. Unlike traditional Kegel trainers that require dedicated exercise sessions, Pippa is worn internally while you move, providing gentle mechanical resistance and sensory feedback that may encourage pelvic floor muscle engagement. Early research suggests potential effects on pelvic floor muscle activation and mechanics, although clinical evidence demonstrating improvement in bladder leakage remains limited. Important: Pippa is marketed as an FDA general wellness product. It is not FDA-cleared or FDA-approved to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent urinary incontinence or any other medical condition. Its inclusion here is for educational purposes and should not be interpreted as a recommendation or claim that Pippa treats bladder leakage.
